A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
~Proverbs 17:17
Our last doctor appointment was one I would consider "simple." A routine ultrasound, lots of talking, and more routine bloodwork. Yet, it wasn't even remotely calming. My nerves may have gotten the best of me. It was the start of another chapter in our ongoing series. IVF. Three years ago we uncomfortably laughed at the idea that we wouldn't get that far. That would never be us...we thought. Anyways, this post isn't about that. That is just the background of one of the obvious and most sacred blessings God graciously sent our way. The light in the midst of the struggle.
During the consultation with the doctor, she leaned back in her chair, and with the utmost sincerity, asked how we handle the stress of everything. My first answer, without hesitation, was our faith. The backbone of it all. My second answer came through a voice subtly choked with emotion as I simply shared, "People."
People. What sounds so simple literally fills my heart with all things love when I stop and think about them all. Infertility at times has been lonely, but those instances are few and far between because of the people walking beside us.
We have each other. Harper. We also have been blessed with a family wanting this as much as we do. Friends I can text in the middle of the night when nothing makes sense. Co-workers who are more like family, praying for each other. Friends who have your back and use their kind magic to take your mind off the burdens of the day. Those who graciously ride along to appointments because your presence makes the day easier and significantly more fun! People who know all too well the struggles of infertility who have become a support system. Acquaintances who have no idea what is going on during the tough days, but their kindness allows a smile to work its way out of us. The medical staff who have a way of making things seem calm and okay when the news didn't always feel that way. People.
God has given us many blessings to be thankful for over the last eight years, blessings that shine a little light in those dark, dark times. The people He has placed right here, right now, get us through. To all our people, we are forever grateful.
We, your people, wrap our arms around you. You are loved, you are supported, you are prayed for daily. We will be here for you always.
